CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

KinderBallet

Dance as a magical faerie queen would or leap like a frog when we go on a jungle safari! KinderBallet offers kindergarten aged students an opportunity to experience classical ballet through fun and creative themed classes. It is aimed at preparing children for Ballet I and instilling an appreciation of Ballet and dance in general. At the heart of KinderBallet is a new ballet program especially developed for the young elementary student.

Ballet I
Ballet classes begin with training at the barre to practice proper body placement, warm and strengthen muscles, and build technique that is brought to the center. In the center, dancers work on adagio (slow, controlled movements that combine strength and flexibility), petit allegro (small, quick jumps that build speed and ease of motion), allegro (more dramatic movements that are a natural extension of petit allegro), and grand allegro (large, spectacular steps that use a combination of skills learned throughout class). Strength and flexibility training are incorporated to supplement technique.

Ballet II/III
This II/III combo class  will continue to expand on our basic vocabulary and build upon our current foundation. Students moving up or needing an extra challenge will be allowed to incorporate appropriate leveled content to their repertoire.

Variations
Formerly lyrical, this class will focus on contemporary variations ranging from ballet to hip hop and everything in between. Students will play with the idea of fusion and gain a wider perspective for dance and all it's sub-genre's. Dancer's must have a minimum of two years dance experience and clearance from instructor to join. It is highly recommended that dancer's take at least one other dance class to supplement their training.

KinderHop KinderHop was created specifically for children who love to dance between the ages of 4-6 and in Kindergarten. This class is fun, fast-paced, and upbeat. Children will develop coordination, body awareness, build self esteem and promote confidence. Learn the fundamental Hip-Hop moves including basic body isolations, precision, performance quality and choreography.

Hip Hop/Jazz I
This Hip Hop/Jazz combo class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Street, Classic and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on jazz technique layered with hip hop movements and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. This class is for the beginner, wanting to explore both hip hop and jazz.

Hip Hop I
A high-energy class that uses the latest music in rap, R&B, and pop music together with movements influenced by some of today’s hottest video choreographers presented in an age appropriate manner. Hip hop involves movement that has elements of popping, locking, and breaking as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style. Learn basic hip hop and break dancing skills, from footwork, to freezes, to group choreography and teamwork.

Hip Hop I/II
This I/II combo class is for the older or more experienced beginner. We will begin to focus on a more choreography based curriculum rather than just skills. We will learn and expand on our movements we started with in level I and integrate them into more complex choreography. This class is an hour and open to the 4th-8th grade beginner or by invitation.

Hip Hop II/III
We will begin to focus on a more choreography based curriculum rather than just skills. We will expand on our movements we learned last year and integrate them into more complex choreography. This class is an hour.

ZDC (Zugzwang Dance Crew)
Become an elite member of ZDC! This is a company class by audition only and auditions are open to anyone newly placed in level II or higher in any genre of dance. This class is held two days a week with a requirement of one other class a week, level II or higher. Dancers selected to join ZDC must be present at all three classes each week unless otherwise discussed with instructor, as well as being expected to perform at school functions and at other performance opportunities through out the year.

Read the ZDC Constitution for more details.

WEDNESDAY MINIMUM DAY SCHEDULE

With a minimum day every other Wednesday, we are asking that if your child is enrolled in both Club M and Ballet (level I or higher) that your child sign in and attend Club M until the start of their dance class. We are trying to minimize the number of children waiting in the dance room for their class to begin. If you are unable to pick your child up at their release time and bring them back to their scheduled dance class, students can wait in the dance room, so long as they have something to occupy their time. Socializing with friends can not be an option, as it is very disruptive to the current class. It will be required that students bring something to keep them entertained, homework and books are a great option!

Our Minimum Day schedule is as follows:
Hip Hop/Jazz I: 12:30 - 1:30pm
Variations: 1:30 - 2:30pm
